There’s a request I hear quite often from returning patients.
“I did this treatment a few years ago and really liked the result. Can we just do the same thing again?”
Sometimes, absolutely.
If something worked well before, there’s nothing wrong with considering it again.
But I don’t automatically assume that a successful treatment in the past is still the right treatment today.
Because the face we’re looking at today may not be quite the same face we treated three years ago.
Aging doesn’t happen in one predictable direction.
Skin elasticity changes. Facial volume changes. The way the lower face sits can change. Skin quality may become more noticeable than laxity—or the opposite.
Even the thing that bothers the patient can change.
A few years ago, perhaps the main concern was early sagging around the jawline.
Today, the patient may still describe the problem as “sagging,” but when I look at the face, what stands out may be different.
Maybe there is more volume loss now.
Maybe the skin itself has changed.
Maybe repeating exactly what we did before would still produce some improvement, but it wouldn’t address what is actually making the patient feel older today.
This is why I’m cautious about turning aesthetic treatments into routines.
It’s very easy to think:
“I do this once a year.”
There’s comfort in having a familiar treatment. You know what to expect, how it feels, and what the recovery is like.
But I think every repeat treatment deserves at least one question:
If I were seeing this face for the first time today, would I still recommend the same thing?
For me, that question matters more than the treatment history.
Of course, previous treatments are important. They tell me how someone responded, what they liked, what they didn’t like, and how their skin behaved afterward.
But history should inform the next decision, not automatically make it.
This is also why I don’t think a good anti-aging plan should be completely fixed.
The goal may remain the same—to look natural, healthy, and like yourself—but the way we get there may need to change over time.
Sometimes repeating the same treatment is exactly what makes sense.
Sometimes we adjust it.
And sometimes we choose something completely different.
A treatment plan shouldn’t become a routine simply because it worked once.
Your face keeps changing.
Your treatment plan should be allowed to change with it.
